Since in my last post I was talking about hydration and how much water we should drink every day, today I should tell you that drinking plain water is not the only way to get hydrated. Having smoothies and natural juices every day it’s a very good way to get water into your system, some vitamins and have a healthy snack during the day.
Trying to have a smoothie each day can only come with benefits. Smoothies are a really quick and great snack, or even in the morning when you wake up. If you are lazy like I am when I wake up, making a smoothie is a lot quicker than making a full breakfast. Make a smoothie in the morning, take it with you on your car and have it on your way to work. Instead of snacking on unhealthy snacks you should have a smoothie, your body will thank you one day!
This smoothie is amazing during a hot summer. Full of nutrients and benefits for your body, refreshing and cold, yummy taste and really quick to make.
Mangos turned out to be one of my favorite fruits. Even if at the beginning we had some kind of love-hate relationship now I simply love it. I remember the first time that I tried mango and I was so disappointed because it was hard for me to understand why people like that much this nontasty fruit. I tried it so many times because I kept saying to my self that the ones that I bought from the store weren’t good, but, after a few tries I realized that I was eating unripped mango… When I first tried a ripped mango it felt like the sky opened and angels were singing, it was some sort of rainbow in my mouth. Just like cherries mangos also have some benefits for your body, and here are some of them:
Benefits of mangos
- Prevents cancer
- Lowers cholesterol
- Clears the skin
- Alkalizes the whole body
- Improves digestion
- Boosts immune system
Cherries are a good source of antioxidants, and we all know how much our bodies need that. Even if they are not the type of fruit that you can find all year round like bananas and oranges and other fruits, the good thing is that you can buy them frozen or during the summer buy a bigger batch, take out the seeds, wash them and freeze them. Cherries always remind me of my childhood! We used to eat them straight from the trees from the garden, but mostly we used to steal them from our neighbors’ gardens. Beside their yummy taste they have a lot of benefits, and here are some:
Benefits of cherries:
- Helps with arthritis and inflammatory conditions
- Helps lower blood sugar levels in people with diabetes
- Helps lower the risks of heart diseases
- Helps lower the risk of colon cancer
- Helps improve memory
- Helps you get a good night sleep
Lime or lemon, which one? I will always choose a lime over a lemon. The smell, the taste, they are some kind of perfection from the citrus family. Limes have a high water content and such a good source of minerals like calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium and also a good source of vitamins like vitamin A, vitamin E and vitamin K. Lime zest gives such an amazing flavor to food especially combined with salmon, lime juice it’s sour but some sort of ayummy sour, not the one that contracts all your face muscles when you taste it. Like any other fruit, limes bring benefits to your body, and here are some of them:
Benefits of limes
- Rejuvenates skin
- Improves digestion
- Fights infections
- Helps weight loss
- Lowers blood sugar
- Reduces heart disease
- Prevents cancer
- Reduces inflammation
So, after so much talking about fruits and benefits and so on, let’s get to work. Everything is so simple as you can already imagine. Put all the fruits in your blender ( I used my trusty NutriBullet like always), squeeze the lime over the fruits, pour some water depending on how runny or thick you want your smoothie to be, and then blend blend blend!
You can use all fresh fruits, or just like I did, use them frozen, it tastes very yummy both ways. You can only use half a lime, or even skip it, but trust me, it makes such a great difference. I use a whole lime just because I love it so much.
As like most of the smoothie, you can make this thicker and use it as a base for smoothie bowls.
Maybe you noticed the fact that I didn’t specify any quantities, that’s because you can make it depending on your taste. I usually put equal quantities, I squeeze one full lime and sometimes I even put some lime zest for flavor. Use more cherries or more mango, feel free to do whatever you want. Sometimes when I’m feeling a little bit rebellious I even add some celery or even spinach. You can put some yogurt and instead of water can use some milk (dairy, almond, coconut whatever you like). As you can see, this is not a strict “recipe”, try it like this and then change it on how you like it depending on your taste.
So… what you think about this smoothie? Will you try it?
Have a wonderful day and don’t forget to subscribe! 😀
