To banana or to not banana? This is what I usually ask myself in the morning.
My level of laziness in the morning is beyond limits. I usually eat a banana or an yogurt but, so many times I skip breakfast just because I am to lazy to prepare something. I usually like to eat some eggs in the morning, scrambled eggs, an omelet or maybe some french toast, but, I have to be really fresh to do that or have my breakfast around 10-11pm even if I wake up at 7am. Since breakfast at 10-11pm is not breakfast anymore since you woke up 3-4 hours ago, you can eventually call that a brunch and be honest to yourself that you skipped breakfast once again. Of course, the situation changes if you are lucky enough to have someone that makes breakfast for you every morning.
I always liked a good cold pressed juice instead of smoothies, but that was too much work / effort for me, so I chose the easy way. My only problem with smoothies is that it’s pretty hard for me to find something that has a really good taste and I’m not desperately searching for food in every corner of the house 15 minutes later after I had my smoothie.
Maybe this smoothie recipe is a little bit of a cliche but I like it so much that I still feel the need to share this recipe with you.
The ingredients are basic, simple and affordable and you can add some other ingredients depending on your taste. I don’t make this smoothie the same all the time, sometimes I add chia seeds, or maybe oats, some almonds, it all depends on what I want or what I have in the house at the moment.
You just need 3 simple ingredients: peanut butter, banana and some dates. I usually use 2-3 dates, no more than that because it comes a little sweeter for my taste. The banana is frozen most of the times because even I like bananas very much when it comes about the smoothie it has to be frozen. Frozen, not frozen, it doesn’t change the taste but I like the consistency way more if I have frozen fruits. Milk or water? Whatever you like my dear. Use water if you like it that way or use milk. I usually use coconut and almond milk just because that’s something I usually buy. Add some peanut butter of your choice, or, you can also add almond butter.
Now that we went thru the basic ingredients, you can keep simple like this, or, add some chia seeds, or maybe almonds, or even some oats. I forgot to mention that cinnamon (if you like it) goes perfect with this smoothie.
Maybe you noticed the fact that I didn’t say how much milk to add to this smoothie, that’s because it depends on your taste. Make it thinner or thicker, make it exactly how you like it. I usually put all the ingredients in my trusty NutriBullet and than I add milk just enough to cover everything. Blend blend blend everything for about 30 seconds (that’s how much it takes to my blender to do his thing), and than serve.
Another idea is to serve this smoothie as a smoothie bowl. Make it a little bit thicker, put it in a bowl and garnish with with a sliced banana, some peanuts, chia seeds, a sprinkle of cinnamon, and some sliced almonds. Maybe I’ll make another post on my blog, just to show you how simple it is to transform this smoothie in a smoothie bowl.
Quick tip : you can put all de ingredients in a zip-lock bag, except milk and freeze them. If you are in a hurry in the morning, just get the bag out of the freezer, put it in the blender, pour some milk and other things you like in your smoothie, blend blend blend and you are ready to go.
This is all for today. Don’t forget to subscribe to see what’s coming next !
Have a nice day !
